Shaggy:

Shaggy seems an odd name for a man with little hair atop his head.

My musical tastes span pretty much every genre and are constantly evolving and developing, into what, im not sure.

SO, rather than attempting to categorize what styles of music i like, i shall simply say that almost every style of

music has one, if not many brilliant artists/groups within its sphere, and more importantly there are many artists/groups

who happily it seems dont fit into any one or two or three spheres. Artists/groups/etc that leave me with a nice taste in

my mouth include Arcturus, Ulver, Dodheimsgard, In The Woods, Ved Buens Ende, Fleurety, John Zorn, Aphex Twin,

Raison D'etre, MZ412, Drum 'N Roland, Freak Disciple, Emperor, Agents of Oblivion, DJ Spooky and loads more.

I also double as webmaster of the der Keller homepage.

Kira:

Kira was first introduced to alternative music when she first heard New Order's

Brotherhood album in 1986. After that there was no turning back.

The dark-tinged lyrics of The Cure and The Smiths were played in abundance

during her teen angst years, later moving her into other '80s bands, and then

to what is now referred to as the goth/industrial/electronic tag that took her into the '90s.

Kira’s first attempt at DJ ing came in February 1999 with a one-off night at the

Greenwich bar (under His Majesty’s) in Perth, WA. The event was called

“The Underground” and run with DJ Walp (Skin, NTSC). The night tried to capture

mainly the older alternative (what was then referred to as alternative music) and some

new gothic/industrial music. Her second attempt at DJing was at der Keller on

25 June 1999 because Emily had faith in her choice of music and burgeoning

DJing ability :). She has been since asked to spin at der Keller on

October 1, 1999, SO BE THERE!

Here are a few of her favourite musical things:

the Black Captain:

I am so utterly in love with, so vehemently loyal, to the phenomenon the
English-speaking world calls "music" that it seems inappropriate, to not do
this thing of great beauty the appropriate justice, to speak of my
involvement with it simply in this lifetime. The effect seems so much deeper
more profound. Why?

Every musical moment of my life that has seemingly genuine personal
significance (no matter what one has seen or heard me goaded into over the
27 years this meat has served as a home) is completely detached from
subculture, commodification, rigid codification, and other common practices
people will tell you are all about instinct.

"What the fuck is he saying now?" I hear. I mean that music is something
beyond what it has become when I look around me. When music makes my spirit
CUM REAL HARD, it's always been about honesty, the sincerest form of
expression that another soul can display to me. It's not about how I look
standing next to someone next to the bar at a gig or a club, whether I look
like I match the person standing next to me well enough, hell, no matter
what the fuck I look like. I am a lifeform in the Universe. It's the only
thing that matters; and, the music that speaks to me about that, I love.
The music that transcends the brutal oppressive social goading into cliques
and groups products can be more easily marketed to, the music that speaks of
magic, the connection we all have by virtue of "the atomic unit", "the
cosmic origin", gimmee gimmee gimmee...

For this reason, I won't speak of genres. If I'm ever presenting sounds at
Der Keller or anywhere, you might hear Walter Carlos; Aphex Twin; anything
that David Thrussell is even remotely involved with, ditto with Mick Harris
post Napalm Death; Raison d'Etre, Love Corporation, Northgate and others
amongst the vast and many arcana of ambient and beat-driven musicians
hailing from Sweden, France, and Italy; Witchman; Monumentum; and, a great
many artists hailing from Perth, such as Audio Cephlon, Synthetik, Jase from
Outta Space, Scope, Echoic, the list goes on...

Expect one thing: emotion and atmosphere that cuts through all the fucking
bullshit that people expect, cuts through all the clothes and ideology of
the masses and the clusters that masses entails under this current social
structure. Expect a sincere and heartfelt collage of expressions. If you
are after anything else, whatever you may call it, something more
"masculine", something that will facilitate the mob mentality, then drop the
adolescent angst act and fuck off and buy a house, station wagon, enough
products to facilitate biologically successful mating on 2.4 occasions, and
tune into 94.5 today. Why waste yours or anyone else's time eh?

In the mean time, I'll recede into a luxurious and exotic variety of sounds,
from anywhere on this planet, from Somalia to the South Bronx, to be with
those of you that I love, forgetting about a life of derision and
conformity.

And if you know those sounds, you'll all know I love you deeply.

Trinket:

I have no idea what to say about myself. I hate writing these "get to know the person" things. If you have any interest read on

(or check out my page), IF NOT then scroll to the bottom to see what music I like these days.

My first gothic friend was Nasty Pasty, he is still a very good friend of mine. My first venture to the goth clubbing scene was

the original Dominion, underground, the week after it opened (I think that was 96? i don't know). I remember sitting on the

couch on an early Sunday morning, arguing with a friend, Paul, about what time we were going home then some loud mouth

in a black long sleeve shirt opened muttered something about us (& you know what you said!). It was from that moment,

my friendship grew with Mikkael. Mikky kinda took me under his wing from that point on & I was trained in his evil &

wicked ways. Your such a sweety!! [Mik: Yeah well the roles have reversed and now you are the master, or should I say

mistress? ; ]

Well I've survivied for a few years now & I still enjoy it (the scene that is!) (I am making myself sound so old! In truth I

am not. During my travels to America I have broadened my musical interests (I think for the best), leaning towards more

electronic/industrial sounds & European electronica. Though deep embedded in my heart will always remain 80's pop &

riot girl scratches.

It was inevitable being in this scene that I took the turn I did, Entertaining the Masses. C'mon darlings, those who know me,

you know what Im talking about! ;P dj-ing of course!

Any way... Der Keller, When Mikkali came back from Europe with the idea of Der Keller, I agreed to help & then it

happened ( Der Keller of course, means The Celler in German & that is exactly the idea created). Finally we have another

place to go! There are so few in Perth, despite Perths' reputation said to have the best Australian Gothic society.

gowf gowf gowf!!!

My favorite musical interests right now include: Prozzak, Meg Lee Chin, Hate Department, Chandeen, Fluffy, Romeo Void, Bjork

My all time favorite include: Tori Amos, Souxsie & the Banshees, Genetorturers, Christian Death, FLA, F242, Aphex Twin, This Ascention,

Gary Newman.
